Australia has given approval for the commercialization of genetically engineered bananas.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has approved an application from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to allow the consumption of food produced from a genetically engineered banana variety developed for resistance to Panama disease. The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) in Australia has issued this approval.
