Chinese cabbage in Poland- will there be a price record?

The real winter we have had this season has clearly affected the situation on the fresh vegetable market in Poland. Most of the main domestic winter offer vegetables have gained in price on the big wholesale market. The situation in the wholesale market for Chinese cabbage has changed most dynamically.

Chinese cabbage started to get out of the price hole already at the beginning of 2021 and it was January that brought the biggest price increases for this cabbage in the large wholesale. This can be seen in our chart above. Then, when winter let up a bit, there were even some corrections, but the second decade of February brought another upward trend.

As a result, the selling prices of Chinese cabbage at the large wholesaler (with packaging, "at the ready") increased to the level of 2.00-2.60 PLN/kg (cumulative growth since the beginning of the year is +48 percent) and, what is also visible on the chart, they are less and less close to entering the record high level for the current phase of the season. But in order to do so, the average price would have to be above that of February-March 2011, which will not be easy because then from the second half of February to the end of March there was a dynamic increase in Chinese cabbage prices. However, if the frost comes back and lasts for another few weeks, who knows?
