Green beans in Poland cheaper than a year ago

July brought a decrease in the price of green beans. This trend was quite dynamic as within twelve days the prices of beans in the domestic large wholesale fell by half. This trend has brought prices that are lower than those of the same period last year. Moreover, beans in the large wholesale are now also cheaper compared to two and three years ago.

Currently, prices of green beans at the large wholesaler are at PLN 3.00-6.00 per kilo. This gives an average of PLN 4.50/kg. A year ago it was PLN 7.50/kg (weather conditions then were severely unfavourable). Around 14 July 2019, the average price of beans was as high as PLN 10.00/kg, while at the same time in 2018 it was PLN 5.35/kg.

It is worth noting that the commercial bean season in Poland is still before its peak phase. Usually, we have the largest supply and the lowest prices at the turn of July and August and in the first decade of August.How low will be the prices of beans during this period of the current season? Everything depends on the weather. If it continues to be so hot and stormy, field beans will suffer and be of poor quality. Then prices may be higher for the nice stuff.
