World Soil Day, Italy loses 30% of arable land
Because of overbuilding and abandonment, Italy has lost almost 1/3 (30%) of its agricultural land in the last half-century, with the usable agricultural area reduced to just 12.8 million hectares with effects on the hydrogeological seal of the territory and on the country's production deficit and agri-food dependence on foreign countries.
