Asparagus exports from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

The export volume of asparagus from Poland in 2020 amounted to 1.2 thousand tonnes and its value reached 15.1 million PLN. This means a significant decrease in volume, but with an increase (minimal) in the value of exports in this category year-on-year.
In 2019, 1.6 thousand tonnes of asparagus were exported from Poland for an amount of PLN 15.0 million. This gives a decrease in volume by 0.4 thousand tonnes, or 25.1 per cent, and an increase in value by PLN 0.1 million, or 0.9 per cent.
The average price of asparagus exported from Poland was PLN 13.01/kg in 2020 compared to PLN 9.66/kg in 2019. This gives a year-on-year increase of 34.7 per cent.
In terms of changes in the structure of asparagus exports between 2019 and 2020, it remains dominated by deliveries to one main customer - Germany. As much as 86.0 per cent of asparagus exported from Poland in 2020 went to this country.
Germany maintained its leading position in the period despite a decrease in volume from 1328 to 996 tonnes.
Ukraine remained in second place with a drop in volume from 89 to 83 tonnes.
France remained in third place with a volume decrease from 33 to 30 tonnes.
The average price of all exports is necessarily shaped mainly by sales prices to Germany. In 2020 the average price at which Germany bought Polish asparagus was PLN 13.43 per kilo. More expensive exports were made to France - an average of 15.48 PLN/kg. The average price to Ukraine was much lower - 4.45 PLN/kg.
