Aubergine almost disappeared from importers' offers in Poland.

Aubergines have almost disappeared from the offer of Polish importers. It is difficult to get them at wholesale and there is a shortage of these vegetables on shop shelves. This is obviously a result of the supply problems faced by producers in Spain. The cold and snowy weather front Filomena has hit vegetable production centres in Andalusia, among others.

In Spain, the situation has been improving for some time and the supply of most of the vegetables produced in Almeria or Murcia is starting to recover. But in the case of aubergines, this process is delayed and slower. Prices at wholesale auctions in Almeria remained high until 19-20 January and only dropped to an average of €1.46/kg in the second half of last week (-61 per cent on 19 January).

But in Poland this Spanish price fall has not yet been felt this morning. Here, wholesale Spanish aubergine prices are still at record high levels. In the larger-scale wholesale trade, prices are in the range of 19.00-23.00 złoty /kg. This is 91 per cent higher year-on-year and 17 per cent higher than the record high for the last ten years or more in January 2017.
