Cabbage imports to Poland after Q2 2021

The import volume of cabbage (CN category 070490 - Cabbage, kohlrabi, savoy cabbage and similar edible brassicas, except cauliflower, broccoli and Brussels sprouts, fresh or chilled) in the first half of 2021 amounted to 20.9 thousand tonnes, and its value to PLN 69.0 million. This means an increase in imports in this category year-on-year, especially in value terms.

In the first half of 2020, imports in this category amounted to 20.8 thousand tonnes and PLN 47.7 million. This gives an increase in volume by 0.18 thousand tons, i.e. by 0.9 percent, and an increase in value by as much as 21.3 million PLN, i.e. by 44.6 percent.

The average price of vegetables from this category imported to Poland in the first half of 2021 amounted to 3.30 zlotys per kilo compared to 2.30 zlotys per kilo in the same period of 2020, which means a year-to-year increase by 43.5 per cent.

Of course, this category is aggregated and includes a group of vegetables with different prices, so the above information is only of value insofar as it shows the direction of change.

Macedonia remained in the first place in the ranking of Poland's biggest vegetable suppliers between H1 2020 and the same period of 2021, despite a year-on-year decrease of 1 12.0 to 8.8 thousand tons.

Italy remained in second place with a volume of 3.5 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands moved up to third from sixth place with deliveries increasing from 0.6 to 2.1 thousand tonnes.

Germany has consequently dropped to fourth place from third despite a volume increase from 1.5 to 1.8 thousand tonnes.

Spain has dropped from fourth to fifth place despite a rise in deliveries from 1.2 to 1.8 thousand tonnes.

Portugal was consequently outside the top five, dropping from fifth to sixth place despite a rise in volume from 0.9 to 1.3 thousand tonnes.
