Carrot exports from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

2021-02-26 11:32
The export volume of carrots (CN category 07061000 - Carrots and turnips, fresh or chilled) amounted to 21.9 thousand tonnes in 2020, and its value to PLN 36.5 million. This represents a year-on-year decrease in terms of volume and value.

In 2019, exports in this category amounted to 22.7 thousand tonnes and PLN 45.0 million. This gives a decrease in volume of 0.8 thousand tonnes, or 3.6 per cent, and a decrease in value of PLN 8.5 million, or 18.9 per cent. The disproportion between the relative change in volume and value points to a decrease in the price of exported carrots in 2020.

The average price of carrots exported from Poland was 1.67 PLN/kg in 2020 compared to 1.98 PLN/kg in the same period of 2019. This means a 15.7 per cent year-on-year decrease in this indicator.

When it comes to changes in the geographical structure of carrot exports from Poland between 2019 and 2020, there were quite a few changes within the top five recipients.

However, Slovakia remained in the leading position and this was despite a decrease in the volume of carrots imported from Poland from 8.1 to 6.8 thousand tonnes.

The Czech Republic moved up from third place with an increase in volume from 3.3 to 4.6 thousand tonnes.

Romania went down to third place from second with a volume reduction from 4.9 to 3.2 thousand tonnes.

Germany rose to fourth from seventh place with an increase in volume from 0.6 to 1.5 thousand tonnes.

Lithuania dropped to fifth place from fourth with a volume decrease from 1.7 to 1.4 thousand tonnes.

Italy was outside the top five (down from fifth to ninth place) with a reduction in the volume of carrots purchased in Poland from 0.9 to 0.6 thousand tonnes.

Among the top five countries, Germany bought the most expensive Polish carrots in the period in question, at an average price of 2.28 PLN/kg, while the Czech Republic was the cheapest, at an average price of 1.45 PLN/kg. The largest buyer, Slovakia, paid an average of 1.50 PLN/kg.
