Carrot imports to Poland after Q3 2021

The volume of carrot imports to Poland (CN category 07061000 - Carrots and turnips, fresh or chilled) amounted to 40.9 thousand tonnes after three quarters of 2021, and its value to PLN 89.9 million. This means a decrease in imports both in terms of quantity and value.

After three quarters of 2020, imports in this category amounted to 53.4 thousand tonnes and PLN 95.4 million. This results in a year-to-year decrease in volume by 12.5 thousand tons, i.e. by 23.4%, and a decrease in value by PLN 5.5 million, i.e. by as much as 5.8%.

The average price of carrots imported to Poland after three quarters of 2021 was 2.20 PLN/kg compared to 1.79 PLN/kg a year earlier. This represents a year-on-year increase of 22.9 per cent.

Italy has risen from second place to first place on the list of the largest suppliers of carrots to Poland with an increase in the volume of deliveries from 17.0 to 17.1 thousand tonnes between the three quarters of 2020 and the same period of 2021.

The Netherlands dropped to second place from first place with a reduction in deliveries from 22.4 to 11.0 thousand tonnes.

Germany remained in third place with a decrease in deliveries from 5.7 to 4.4 thousand tonnes.

Spain remained in fourth place with an increase from 2.3 to 3.2 thousand tonnes.

France has risen to fifth from seventh place with an increase in deliveries from 1.0 to 2.1 thousand tonnes.

Belgium dropped from fifth to eighth place with deliveries down from 2.1 to 0.5 thousand tonnes.

According to CSO data, the highest average price in the period in question was for carrots imported to Poland from Germany - PLN 4.30/kg and this was a price clearly reflecting the average, which puts a question mark over the quality of the data, especially as there are more such strange prices to be found (e.g. Estonia - PLN 16.46/kg or Denmark - PLN 12.62/kg, not to mention the record price for carrots from India - PLN 46.65/kg).

The lowest average price was for carrots imported from France - 1.73 PLN/kg on average. Carrots from Italy, the largest supplier, had an average price of PLN 1.94 per kilo.
