Carrot imports to Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

The volume of carrot imports to Poland (CN category 07061000 - Carrots and turnips, fresh or chilled) amounted to 54.1 thousand tonnes in 2020, with a value of PLN 100.2 million. This means a decrease in imports both in terms of quantity and value.

In 2019, imports in this category amounted to 60.3 thousand tonnes and PLN 113.8 million. This gives a year-on-year decrease in volume by 6.2 thousand tonnes, or 10.3 per cent, and a decrease in value by PLN 13.7 million, or as much as 12.0 per cent.

The average price of carrots imported to Poland in 2020 amounted to 1.85 PLN/kg compared to 1.89 PLN/kg the year before. This means a year-on-year decrease by 2.1 per cent.

In terms of changes in the geographical structure of carrot imports to Poland between 2019 and 2020, the top five suppliers included countries below second place.

Indeed, the Netherlands, dominant in this respect, remained in first place and this despite a decrease in volume from 28.8 to 22.5 thousand tonnes.

Italy remained in second place with an increase in deliveries from 11.5 to 16.2 thousand tonnes.

Germany moved up to third place from fourth with an increase in volume from 5.0 to 6.8 thousand tonnes.

Spain has risen to fourth place from fifth, although its deliveries have fallen from 3.5 to 2.3 thousand tonnes.

Belgium has risen to fifth place from seventh with an increase in volume from 1.5 to 2.1 thousand tonnes.

Outside the top five was France (down from third to seventh place) with volumes down from 5.2 to 0.9 thousand tonnes.

The highest average price was for carrots imported to Poland from Germany - 3.28 PLN/kg and this was a price clearly reflecting the average, which points to the specific assortment of these German carrots. The lowest average price was for carrots imported from the Netherlands and Belgium. In both cases it was 1.44 PLN/kg.
