The volume of carrot imports to Poland (CN category 07061000 - Carrots and turnips, fresh or chilled) amounted to 8.8 thousand tonnes in the first quarter of 2021, with a value of PLN 22.0 million. This means a significant decrease in imports both in terms of quantity and value.
 
In the first quarter of 2021, imports in this category amounted to 17.4 thousand tonnes and PLN 30.4 million. This gives a year-on-year decrease in volume by 8.6 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 49.3 percent, and a decrease in value by 8.4 million PLN, i.e. by as much as 27.5 percent.
 
The average price of carrots imported to Poland in the first quarter of 2021 was 2.49 PLN/kg compared to 1.74 PLN/kg a year earlier. This represents a year-on-year increase of 43.2 per cent.
 
As regards changes in the geographical structure of carrot imports to Poland between the first quarter of 2020 and the same period of 2021, four countries sold volumes of more than 1,000 tonnes to Poland and there was only one change among the top four.
 
The Netherlands, dominant in this respect, remained in first place despite a decline in volume from 9.6 to 3.0 thousand tonnes.
 
Italy remained in second place with a drop in deliveries from 3.1 to 2.6 thousand tonnes.
 
Germany remained in third place with a reduction in volume from 1.8 to 1.2 thousand tonnes.
 
Lithuania, which was not on the carrot supply list the year before, came fourth with 1.2 thousand tonnes.
 
It moved from fourth to seventh place with Belgium, from where deliveries decreased from 1.5 to only 0.2 thousand tonnes.
 
The highest average price was for carrots imported to Poland from Germany, at 4.48 PLN/kg, a price clearly reflecting the average, which points to the specific product range of these German carrots. The lowest average price was for carrots imported from Lithuania at 1.48 PLN/kg and those from the largest supplier, the Netherlands, averaged 1.62 PLN/kg.
