Carrot prices are up in Poland

2021-01-28 11:51
January brought an increase in carrot prices in the Polish wholesale trade. To be more precise, this trend was initiated at the beginning of the second week of this month, after the end of a period in which trade was interrupted by successive holidays. To date, the average selling price of brushed carrots packed in bags has risen by a third at the large wholesale level.

As a result, prices for these carrots are currently between 0.60 and 1.00 zlotys per kilo in the wholesale trade, which also shows a considerable price range for this vegetable. And this is one indication of the reason for the upward trend - the lack of large quantities of good quality goods.

Demand for carrots, as is usual in January, is not high. Sales in the retail market are going well, but the segment as a whole is badly affected by the lockdown caused by the pandemic, especially the closure of catering outlets. Carrot exports are also very poor. The fact that carrots are rising in the Netherlands and across our eastern border is "helping" to push up prices in Poland. The winter weather is also helping.

Wholesale prices of carrots seem to be not so bad considering this unfavourable situation, as you can see on our graph. The average is now 14 per cent higher than last year. However, there is no certainty that the upward trend will be active in the long term. The market situation is not easy. If the authorities maintain the catering blockade and the weather warms up, it will be after the rally.
