Cauliflowers - prices up in Poland, but...

Last week brought an increase in domestic cauliflower prices at wholesale. In the week before, wholesale prices for these vegetables were falling. However, such changes in short-term price trends are not unusual for cauliflowers. Most often they are the result of changes in weather conditions and therefore the pace of vegetation.

This was also the case recently. Last week's hot weather on the one hand and heavy rainfall on the other negatively affected the current supply of decent quality cauliflowers. Previously their availability had been increasing forcing prices down.

In the second week of July, the average selling price of cauliflowers at the large wholesaler fell by 28 per cent, while the following week it rose by 30 per cent. But, as can be seen on the chart, the price has neither gone below its previous low (PLN 2.15/unit in June) nor completely recovered to July's pre-drop ceiling (PLN 3.20/unit). Currently, cauliflower selling prices at the large wholesaler are mostly in the range of 2.40-3.60 PLN/unit, depending on quality and calibre.
