Changes in red cabbage prices in Poland

2021-01-29 11:13
In the passing week, the price monitoring of the fresh-market.pl portal recorded a slight strengthening of red cabbage prices, when it comes to trade in the big wholesale. The change was of a limited character, as it was +6 per cent upwards. Will it continue as an upward trend in the coming weeks?

So far, wholesale prices for red cabbage have reached 0.45-0.60 PLN/kg (not much better than prices for white cabbage). This gives an average of 0.53 PLN/kg. As you can see in our chart below - on the scale of the last ten seasons, this is not an impressive level. Now red cabbage is more expensive than just two of those quotations - from late January 2012 and 2015.

Looking at how the price situation developed in the aforementioned years, it is apparent that, in all likelihood, the chances of an upward trend in winter, such supply and demand realities, are less than slim this season as well. Demand for red cabbage remains very limited. This type of cabbage is one of the vegetables that has been badly affected by the blockade that was introduced in Poland and Europe and which is still being maintained. The lifting of this blockade would undoubtedly revive trade in red cabbage.
