Export of champignons from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

First of all, a methodological remark referring to the GUS data, which does not provide separate information for individual species of mushrooms, but a collective one for the entire genus Agaricus (CN category 070951 - Mushrooms of the genus Agaricus, fresh or chilled).

The volume of mushroom exports from Poland in 2020 amounted to 200.6 thousand tonnes, while its value reached PLN 1569.8 million (PLN 1.6 billion). This means a decrease in the volume of exports in this category so in terms of quantity, but with a slight increase in terms of value.

This is because in 2019, mushroom exports amounted to 212.0 thousand tonnes and PLN 1543.9 million. This gives a decrease in volume by 11.5 thousand tonnes, or 5.4 per cent, and an increase in value by PLN 26.0 million, or 1.7 per cent.

The average price of mushrooms exported from Poland in 2020 was PLN 7.83/kg compared to PLN 7.28/kg in the same period of 2019, which means a year-on-year increase of only 7.6 per cent.

When it comes to changes in the geographical structure of Polish mushroom exports between 2019 and 2020, the changes among the top five suppliers were mainly quantitative.

The UK remained in first place, but with a drop in volume from 54.6 so 50.5 thousand tonnes.

Germany was second with an increase in volume from 46.8 to 49.4 thousand tonnes.

France remained in third place, although volumes fell from 30.3 to 29.9 thousand tonnes.

Italy remains in fourth place, but with a reduction in volume from 11.7 to 10.5 thousand tonnes.

Sweden moved up from sixth to fifth place, even though exports to this country shrank from 8.1 to 7.9 thousand tonnes.

Outside the top five is Denmark (down from fifth to eighth place), where volumes have shrunk from 8.1 to 6.4 thousand tonnes.

As far as the average prices of mushrooms exported from Poland in 2020 are concerned, the highest average price among the five largest recipients was enjoyed by mushrooms sent to Sweden - 8.44 PLN/kg, and the lowest by those exported to Italy - 4.61 PLN/kg, and this price clearly diverged from the level of prices for the other four largest recipients. Mushrooms sent to the biggest importer - Great Britain - had an average price of 8.22 PLN/kg.
