Export of frozen cherries from Poland in Q1 2021

The volume of frozen cherries exported from Poland (CN 08119075 - Sour cherries (Prunus cerasus) uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling in water, frozen, not containing added sugar or other sweeteners) amounted, in the first quarter of 2021, to 14.0 thousand tons, and its value reached 59.3 million PLN. This means an increase in exports in this category year-on-year in terms of volume, but a decrease in terms of value.

Frozen cherry exports in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to 13.2 thousand tonnes and PLN 64.2 million. This means an increase in volume by 0.8 thousand tonnes, or 6.2%, and a drop in value by PLN 4.9 million, or 7.6%.

The average price of frozen cherries exported from Poland in the first quarter of 2021 was PLN 4.23 per kilo compared to PLN 4.87 per kilo in the same period of 2020, a year-on-year decrease of 13.1 per cent.

As regards changes in the geographical structure of exports in this category between the first quarter of 2020 and the same period of 2021, there have been many within the top five, including a change of leader.

Germany has risen to first from second place, despite a reduction in purchased volume from 3.9 to 3.7 thousand tonnes.

Belarus dropped to second place from first with a volume reduction from 4.4 to 3.2 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands has risen to third from fourth place with an increase in purchased volume from 0.7 to 0.9 thousand tonnes.

France dropped to fourth place from third despite a volume increase from 0.8 to 0.9 thousand tonnes.

China moved up to fifth from ninth place with an increase in volume from 0.3 to 0.7 thousand tonnes.

Out of the top five, Ukraine dropped from fifth to eleventh place with a volume decrease from 0.5 to 0.2 thousand tonnes.

As far as average prices for frozen cherries exported from Poland in the first quarter of 2021 are concerned, the highest average price among the five largest recipients was for fruit going to France at 5.50 PLN/kg, and the lowest for fruit sold to Belarus at 1.92 PLN/kg, which appears to be an underestimate (given that the second lowest price, export to the UAE, was 4.39 PLN/kg. Fruits exported to the largest customer - Germany - had an average price of 4.52 PLN/kg.
