Export of frozen peas from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

The volume of frozen peas exported from Poland (CN category 07102100 - Peas (Pisum sativum), whether or not shelled (uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling in water), frozen) in 2020 amounted to 29.5 thousand tonnes, and its value to PLN 98.6 million. This means a decrease in exports in this category both in terms of volume and value.

In 2019, the export volume in this category amounted to 34.3 thousand tonnes and its value reached PLN 100.1 million. This means a decrease in volume by 4.8 thousand tonnes, or 14.0 per cent, and a decrease in value by PLN 1.4 million, or 1.4 per cent.

The average price of frozen peas increased year-on-year from 2.92 PLN/kg to 3.35 PLN/kg, i.e. by 14.7 per cent, which may be one of the reasons for the reduction in the volume of exports in this category.

In terms of changes in the geographical structure of imports in the category between 2019 and 2020, the top five recipients were significant.

The USA rose to first place from second by increasing the volume of peas purchased from 6.4 to 7.1 thousand tonnes.

Germany fell to second place from first with a volume reduction from 7.8 to 5.2 thousand tonnes.

The Czech Republic moved up to third place from fourth with a volume increase from 2.3 to 2.9 thousand tonnes.

Romania moved up to fourth place from fifth, although the volume there decreased from 2.2 to 2.1 thousand tonnes.

Canada dropped to fifth place from third, with peas imported from 2.4 to 2.1 thousand tonnes.

In 2020, frozen peas from Poland were bought cheapest in Germany (an average price of 3.07 PLN/kg) and most expensive in Romania (an average price of 4.67 PLN/kg). The largest customer, the USA, imported them at an average price of 3.10 PLN/kg.
