Export of frozen raspberries from Poland after Q2 2021

2021-09-03 10:31
The volume of frozen raspberries exported from Poland in the first half of 2021 (CN 08112031 - raspberries uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling in water, frozen, not containing added sugar or other sweetening matter) amounted to 28.1 thousand tonnes, and its value to 288.4 million PLN. This represents a significant year-on-year increase in terms of volume and especially in terms of value.

In the first half of 2020 exports in this category amounted to 20.4 thousand tonnes and PLN 178.6 million respectively. This is an increase in volume by 7.6 thousand tonnes, or 37.3%, and an increase in value by as much as PLN 109.8 million, or 61.5%.

The average price of frozen raspberries exported from Poland in the first half of 2021 amounted to 10.27 PLN/kg compared to 8.732 PLN/kg in the same period of 2020, which means a year-on-year increase by 17.6 per cent.

The problem with GUS data on frozen raspberry exports remains the information on sales of these fruits to Belarus. The quotient of the value of export to this country by its quantity shows that the average price of raspberries sent to Belarus in the first quarter of 2021 is only 1.68 PLN/kg, so it is quite low - much lower than the prices for all other buyers and therefore not very reliable. However, the impact of the price to Belarus was limited insofar as exports to this country accounted for only 4.3 per cent of total exports in the first half of 2021.

On the other hand, we have another "curiosity" in these data - exports to the USA, where the average price is 135.71 PLN/kg. The Central Statistical Office (CSO) seems to have misplaced a digit when listing the weight of frozen raspberries exported to this country, which has reduced the figure by an order of magnitude. Fortunately, exports to the USA are even less important, because their value in the period in question is just 0.04 per cent of total exports.

The list of countries - recipients of Polish frozen raspberries - remains impressive. In the first quarter of 2021, it included 46 countries. Below, we present data on the five largest buyers.

The first place was taken by Germany, which increased its imports from 6.7 to 9.7 thousand tonnes.

Belgium moved up to second place from third by increasing its volume from 1.7 to 3.4 thousand tonnes.

Belgium switched places with France, even though exports to France increased from 1.9 to 2.6 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands remains in fourth place with an increase in volume from 1.7 to 2.5 thousand tonnes.

The United Kingdom remains in fifth place with an increase in imports from 1.7 to 2.4 thousand tonnes.

With regard to average prices of frozen raspberries exported from Poland in the first half of 2021, the highest average price among the five largest buyers was paid by France - 12.76 PLN/kg. The lowest price was paid by Holland - 9.16 PLN/kg. Fruits for the largest recipient - Germany - had an average price of 10.43 PLN/kg.
