Export of garlic from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

The export volume of garlic (CN 07032 category) in 2020 amounted to 2463 tonnes and its value amounted to PLN 23.2 million. This means a large increase year-on-year both in terms of volume and value. Compared to previous years, the level of exports in 2020 can be considered almost record-breaking and this is the second year in a row of such a significant increase.

Indeed, garlic exports in 2019 amounted to 1552 tonnes and PLN 15.6 million. This gives an increase of 911 tonnes, or 58.7 per cent, in volume terms and an increase of as much as PLN 7.6 million, or 49.0 per cent, in value terms.

The average price of garlic exported from Poland in 2020 was PLN 9.41/kg compared to PLN 10.02/kg in 2019, a year-on-year decrease of 6.1 per cent.

When it comes to changes in the geographical structure of garlic exports from Poland between 2019 and 2020, the top three were significant enough that there was a clear change in the leader.

This is because the Netherlands has risen to first place from second by increasing the volume of garlic purchased in Poland from 524 to 1347 tonnes.

The Czech Republic, where the volume of deliveries increased from 557 to 592 tonnes, was pushed into second place from first.

The United Kingdom remained in third place, and here the volume decreased from 356 to 260 tonnes.

As far as the three largest buyers are concerned, Poland sold garlic to the UK at an average price of PLN 8.46 per kilo. The most expensive was to the Czech Republic with an average price of PLN 10.30 per kilo and to the largest recipient, the Netherlands, at an average of PLN 9.79 per kilo.
