Export of raspberries from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

2021-03-09 12:02
The volume of fresh raspberries exported from Poland in 2020 (CN 08102010 - Fresh raspberries) amounted to 8.4 thousand tonnes, and its value to 103.1 million zlotys. This means year-on-year growth, both in terms of volume and value, but especially in the latter. However, it should be remembered that this increase is recorded against a weak 2019, and still remains lower in volume terms in relation to 2018.

Indeed, in 201 exports in this category amounted to 7.7 thousand tonnes and 75.2 million respectively. This gives a volume increase of 0.7 thousand tonnes, or 9.4 per cent, and a value increase of PLN 27.8 million, or 37.0 per cent.

In 2018, exports in this category were 11.4 thousand tonnes and PLN 68.3 million respectively. This gives a decrease of 3.0 thousand tonnes or 26.3 per cent in volume terms and an increase of PLN 6.9 million or 10.2 per cent in value terms.

The average price of fresh raspberries exported from Poland was 12.25 PLN/kg in 2020 compared to 9.77 PLN/kg in the same period of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 25.4 per cent.

As for the geographical structure of fresh raspberry exports from Poland and the changes in it between 2019 and 2020, there were significant changes in the top five largest customers, but in places below the top two.

Indeed, Germany strengthened its leadership position by increasing the volume of raspberries purchased in Poland from 3.9 to 4.3 thousand tonnes.

The second position was occupied by the Netherlands, which increased its volume from 1.7 to 2.5 thousand tonnes.

Sweden rose to third from sixth, increasing its volume from 0.2 to 0.4 thousand tonnes.

Italy moved up to fourth place from seventh, increasing its volume from 0.1 to 0.4 thousand tonnes.

Austria dropped to fifth place from fourth with a volume of 03,000 tonnes.

Outside of the top five, Belgium has dropped from third to sixth with a volume decrease from 0.96 to 0.3 thousand tonnes and France from fifth to eighth with a volume decrease from 0.3 thousand tonnes to only 64 tonnes.

The highest average price in 2020 in the top five was for raspberries exported to Italy at 21.26 PLN/kg. Raspberries sold to the Netherlands were the cheapest, with an average price of 7.27 PLN/kg. As you can see, the price difference here is enormous and may raise doubts about the accuracy of the data. This may be due to, for example, different packaging.
