Exports of high bush blueberries from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data
The volume of the Polish export of the highbush blueberry (and more precisely, the fruit of the CN 08104050 category - Fruits of the Vaccinium macrocarpon and Vaccinium corymbosum species, fresh) in 2020 amounted to 15.0 thousand tonnes, while its value reached 379.8 million PLN. This means an increase in exports in this category both in terms of volume and value.
Indeed, in 2019, the export volume in this category amounted to 8.7 thousand tonnes, while its value reached 379.8 million tonnes. This gives an increase in volume by 6.4 thousand tonnes, or 73.6 per cent, and an increase in value by as much as PLN 177.6 million, or 87.8 per cent.
The average price of blueberries exported from Poland in 2020 was 25.28 PLN/kg compared to 23.37 PLN/kg in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 8.2 per cent.
Comparing the geographic structure of exports in the category in question in 2019 and 2020, we see a rather large dispersion - many smaller buyers (about 30) and only two to three larger ones. It was the same a year earlier.
The first place was strengthened by Germany which significantly increased its purchases of Polish blueberries - from 2.6 to 7.0 thousand tonnes.
The United Kingdom remained in second place despite a reduction in purchased volume from 2.5 to 2.4 thousand tonnes.
The Netherlands has risen to third place from fifth, with volumes increasing from 0.4 to 1.2 thousand tonnes.
Sweden has dropped to fourth place from third, although volumes here increased from 0.9 to 1.2 thousand tonnes.
Norway came in fifth from twenty-third with an increase in volume from just 10 tonnes to 0.8 thousand tonnes.
Outside the top five, Denmark dropped from fourth to sixth place with an increase in volume from 0.6 to 0.7 thousand tonnes.
Poland's most expensive export in 2020 was to Norway, with an average price of 36.63 PLN per kilo, among the five largest buyers. The cheapest exports were to the Netherlands at 21.32 PLN/kg. The largest recipient, Germany, bought Polish blueberries at an average price of 23.99 PLN per kilogram.
