Exports of pears from Poland after Q2 2021

2021-08-26 09:55
The volume of export of pears from Poland (CN category 080830 - Fresh pears) amounted to 59.9 thousand tonnes in the first half of 2021, and its value amounted to 71.3 million PLN. This means an increase in the volume of exports in this category year-on-year with a simultaneous decrease in its value.

In the first half of 2020, exports in this category amounted to 49.3 thousand tonnes and PLN 78.9 million. This gives a year-to-year increase in volume by 10.6 thousand tons, i.e. by 21.5 percent, and a decrease in value by PLN 7.6 million, i.e. by 9.6 percent.

The average price of dessert pears exported from Poland in the first half of 2021 amounted to 1.19 zlotys per kilo compared to 1.60 zlotys per kilo in the same period of 2020, which means a year-on-year decrease by 25.6 per cent.

But, as is unfortunately common in CSO data on foreign trade, the value for Belarus is suspiciously low, resulting in an average export price to this country significantly lower than the others. As Belarus is the largest buyer of this fruit, this has a huge impact on the average price. If we do not include the sale price of pears to Belarus in this list, the average will be at the level of 3.05 PLN/kg compared to 3.35 PLN/kg the year before!

The first place on the list of Polish pear buyers has been strengthened by Belarus - volume growth from 43.0 to 51.5 thousand tons.

In second place was Ukraine, with an increase in supplies from 2.7 to 3.0 thousand tonnes.

Kazakhstan is in third place, with an increase in volume from 1.2 to 2.5 thousand tonnes.

As for average prices of Polish pears exported in the first half of 2021 to the three largest buyers, the highest price, according to CSO data, was that of fruit sold to Ukraine - 3.97 PLN/kg, and the lowest that of fruit exported to Belarus - 0.88 PLN/kg, which seems hardly credible, if only because the next lowest price, of pears exported to Kazakhstan, was 1.91 PLN/kg, i.e. much more than twice the price of Belarus.
