Exports of sweet pepper from Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

The volume of sweet pepper exports from Poland (CN 070960 - Fresh or chilled fruits of the genus Capsicum or of the genus Pimenta) in 2020 amounted to 27.3 thousand tonnes, and its value reached 121.6 million zlotys. This means a decrease in exports in this category, both in terms of the quantitative dimension and the value dimension.

This is because pepper exports in 2019 amounted to 29.6 thousand tonnes and PLN 122.3 million, respectively. This means a decrease in volume by 2.3 thousand tonnes, or 7.7 percent, and a decrease in value by PLN 0.7 million, or 0.6 percent.

The average price of pepper exported from Poland in 2020 was 4.45 PLN/kg compared to 4.13 PLN/kg in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 7.7 per cent.

In terms of changes in the geographical structure of Paprika exports between 2019 and 2020, there were two top five customers.

The first place was strengthened by Ukraine increasing the purchased volume from 5.3 to 5.6 thousand tonnes.

Belarus remained in second position despite a decrease in volume from 5.3 to 4.4 thousand tonnes.

Germany remained in third place, increasing its volume from 2.4 to 2.6 thousand tonnes.

The Czech Republic moved up to fourth place from fifth with a volume of 1.9 thousand tonnes.

Latvia moved up to fifth place from seventh with a volume of 1.4 thousand tonnes.

Outside the top five, the Netherlands dropped from fourth to ninth place with a volume decrease from 2.2 to 1.0 thousand tonnes.

As far as our five largest buyers are concerned, Poland exported the most expensive peppers to Germany in 2020, with an average price of PLN 5.02 per kilo. The cheapest exports were to Belarus at PLN 2.51 per kilo. The largest buyer, Ukraine, was buying Polish peppers at an average price of 4.87 PLN/kg.
