Fewer mandarins in Poland

2021-02-10 12:52
The mandarin season has passed its peak in terms of supply. In February, the availability of these fruit, imported to Poland from southern Europe and possibly northern Africa, begins to decrease. The range of available varieties is also shrinking, as the most popular clementine varieties are disappearing from the shelves.

A drop in supply usually means a rise in prices. This started a year ago in the second decade of February. Then the trend was supported by the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Between February and May 2020, the average price of mandarins on the Polish wholesale market increased by 43 per cent.

In the current season , so far, the prices of mandarins in the Polish wholesale market have increased by 16 per cent since January. Currently, they are mostly in the range of 3.50-6.50 zlotys per kilo. This gives an average of 5.00 zlotys per kilo, less than 5 per cent lower year-on-year. A continuation of the growth in mandarin prices is expected in the coming days, although it is already clear from the course of the season so far, the trend will not be as dynamic as last year.
