Green bean season in Poland enters supply peak

2021-07-29 10:22
The situation on the wholesale market for green beans in Poland was relatively quiet between 10 and 20 July. Supply and prices stabilised, but it was already clear then that this was a temporary state. After 20 July, wholesale bean prices started to move dynamically downwards again.

But even this stabilisation of a few days did not bring this year's green bean prices above the levels of the same days last year. By June, vegetation had already accelerated enough to catch up with earlier delays, and current prices are now below those of last year. It is also important to remember that there are generally greater quality problems this year, which is driving down the average bean price.

At the moment, bean prices at the large wholesaler are usually between PLN 2.50-3.50/kg (22% lower year-on-year), which means that the domestic bean season is entering a period of peak supply, and therefore a period of lowest prices. Of course, much depends on the weather here, but generally there are two to three weeks of peak bean season ahead.
