High supply of cauliflowers on the Polish market

2021-10-05 10:56
In September, it was forecast that after a period of low supply and high prices, the availability of cauliflowers in Poland would increase significantly. Especially if the weather is good. And so it has happened. It is now golden autumn in Poland. The nights are cool, but during the day the sun shines and the days are warm. This weather is good for cauliflowers - both for the increase in quantity and for their good quality.

As expected, the supply of cauliflowers on the Polish market has therefore increased quite rapidly over the past month, and wholesale prices have followed this trend. The fall in prices on the fresh market would probably be even faster, but there is a parallel campaign to buy cauliflowers for processing and this is affecting supply.

The downward trend in cauliflower prices at the large wholesalers started at the beginning of the second decade of September and, as you can see in our chart above, has continued basically uninterrupted until now. There has only been an upward price correction once in this period (26 September), but this was a temporary change. As a result, the current selling prices of cauliflowers are most often 1.80-2.60 PLN/piece, depending on the calibre. This means that prices have fallen by 40.5 per cent over the period in question. The chart also shows that the current average price is already quite low compared to prices in previous seasons, although it is still quite close to the minimum (1.60 on 5 October 2012).
