Import of garlic to Poland at the end of Q2 2021

The volume of garlic imports (CN category 070320) to Poland in the first half of 2021 amounted to 7.6 thousand tonnes, and its value reached 65.8 million PLN. This means an increase in imports in this category year-on-year, both in terms of quantity and value.

In the first half of 2020, Poland imported 6.9 thousand tonnes of garlic for PLN 60.0 million. This gives an increase in volume by 0.7 thousand tons, i.e. by 9.6 percent, and an increase in value by PLN 5.8 million, i.e. by 9.7 percent.

The average price of garlic imported to Poland in the first half of 2021 was PLN 8.68/kg compared to PLN 8.67/kg a year earlier, which means a year-on-year increase of only 0.1 per cent.

Spain, which increased its deliveries from 2.9 to 3.3 thousand tonnes between the first half of 2020 and the same period of 2021, strengthened its position as the number one garlic supplier to Poland.

Second position was occupied by Egypt which increased its deliveries from 2.1 to 2.5 thousand tonnes.

China remained in third place despite a volume reduction from 1.5 to 1.3 thousand tonnes.

As far as the average prices of garlic imported to Poland in the first half of 2021 are concerned, the highest average price among the three largest suppliers was that of garlic from Spain - 10.33 zlotys per kilo and this price clearly stood out from the others. Garlic from China, second on the list, had an average price of PLN 7.64/kg. The cheapest of the top three suppliers was garlic from Egypt with an average price of PLN 5.64/kg.
