Import of sweet cherries to Poland in 2021

The volume of imports to Poland of fresh cherries (CN category 08092900 - Fresh cherries) in 2021 amounted to 5.7 thousand tonnes and its value to PLN 62.8 million. This means a large increase year-on-year both in terms of volume and value.

In 2020, the volume of imports in this category amounted to 4.7 thousand tonnes and its value to PLN 49.3 million. This means a year-on-year increase in volume by 1.0 thousand tonnes, or 20.7%, and an increase in value by PLN 14.5 million, or 27.3%. Such a significant increase in imports is largely due to the delay of the Polish cherry season in 2021.

The average price of cherries imported to Poland in 2021 amounted to PLN 11.08 per kg compared to PLN 10.51 per kg in the same period of 2020. This means a year-on-year increase by 5.4 per cent.

The first place in the ranking of the biggest supplier of cherries to Poland was strengthened by Greece, which increased its volume between 2020 and 2021 from 1936 tonnes to 2399 tonnes.

Spain moved up to second place from fourth, increasing its deliveries from 364 to 1107 tonnes.

Serbia dropped to third place from second with a drop in deliveries from 791 to 741 tonnes.

Austria dropped to fourth place from third with an increase in volume from 410 to 463 tonnes.

Turkey moved up to fifth place from sixth with an increase in volume from 255 to 441 tonnes.

Germany dropped from fifth to sixth place with a volume reduction from 329 to 259 tonnes.

The most expensive cherries among the three largest suppliers were imported to Poland in 2021 from Spain, at an average price of PLN 13.77 per kilo. The cheapest were those imported from Serbia - at an average of PLN 8.02 per kg, and those from the largest supplier, Greece, were imported at an average of PLN 10.30 per kg.
