Imports of aubergines to Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

The volume of aubergine imports (category 07093000 - Aubergines (aubergines), fresh or chilled) to Poland in 2020 amounted to 4.4 thousand tonnes, and its value reached 22.5 million PLN. This means a slight decrease in volume, while the value of imports in this category increased year-on-year.
In 2019, 4.6 thousand tonnes of aubergines were imported to Poland for an amount of PLN 21.7 million. This gives a decrease in volume by 0.2 thousand tonnes, or 3.9 percent, and an increase in value by PLN 0.8 million, or 3.7 percent.
The average price of aubergines imported to Poland was PLN 5.14/kg in 2020 compared to PLN 4.77/kg in 2019, This gives a year-on-year increase of 7.8 per cent.
As for changes in the structure of aubergine imports between 2019 and 2020, Poland has three major suppliers in this category and there were only quantitative changes here in the period under discussion.
Spain, which is by far the dominant country in this respect, has remained in first place. Imports of aubergines from this country fell from 2.9 to 2.7 thousand tonnes.
In second place, the Netherlands has strengthened its position by increasing its deliveries from 1.0 to 1.1 thousand tonnes.
Germany remained in third place with volumes fluctuating around 0.6 thousand tonnes.
As far as average prices of aubergines imported to Poland in 2020 are concerned, the highest average price among the three largest suppliers was recorded for those imported from Germany - 6.87 PLN/kg and the lowest price for those imported from the Netherlands - 4.48 PLN/kg. Aubergines from the largest supplier, Spain, had an average price of 4.99 PLN per kilo.
