Imports of leeks to Poland at the end of Q2 2021

The volume of leek imports (CN category 07039000 - Leeks and other bulbous vegetables fresh or chilled) to Poland in the first half of 2021 amounted to 8.4 thousand tonnes, with a value of 38.3 million PLN. This means a significant year-on-year increase in imports in this category.

In the first half of 2020, these imports amounted to 6.5 thousand tonnes and PLN 18.3 million respectively. This gives a year-on-year increase in volume by 2.0 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 30.2%, and an increase in value by PLN 19.9 million, i.e. by 108.7%.

The average price of leeks imported to Poland in the first half of 2021 was 4.53 PLN/kg. In 2019 it was 2.83 PLN/kg. So here we have a year-on-year increase of 60.1 per cent.

Between the first quarter of 2020 and the corresponding period of 2021, there have been major changes in the list of the largest suppliers of leeks to Poland.

Turkey has risen to the leader's place from the sixth position, increasing the volume of deliveries from 0.2 to 3.6 thousand tonnes.

Belgium has consequently dropped to second place from first, with deliveries dropping from 3.7 to 2.2 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands dropped to third place from second with an increase in volume from 1.1 to 1.7 thousand tonnes.

Spain has been pushed from third to fourth place with a volume decrease from 0.5 to 0.4 thousand tonnes.

As far as the three largest suppliers are concerned, the most expensive leeks to import in the first half of 2021 were those from the Netherlands - at an average of £6.27/kg. Those from Belgium had an average price of £5.84/kg. Leeks from the largest supplier, Turkey, were significantly cheaper, with an average price of 2.26 PLN/kg.
