Limited supply of Chinese cabbage on the Polish market

Summer is a period that quite often brings big challenges for Chinese cabbage producers, which is a demanding crop and sensitive to hot weather. Not to mention the frequent thunderstorms and hailstorms we have this year. Hence, this year's supply of summer crop is limited. The weather has not been very conducive to obtaining good quality vegetables.

Problems are also due to the high incidence of pests. Here, too, the weather is to blame, which is conducive to their multiplication. And it should be remembered that in the European Union less and less protective preparations are allowed every year.

The consequence is relatively high prices for Chinese cabbage. The current sale prices ("ready") of "pekinki" in the large wholesalers are usually 2,00-2,50 PLN/kg for market quality. It is as much as 61 per cent more expensive than in the analogous period last year. As you can see on the chart above, the current season is generally more expensive than the previous ones. It is only cheaper than in July 2019.
