Parsley still at a price on the Polish Market.

2021-09-22 10:32
In the long term, the prices of parsley in the large wholesalers have been in a downward trend since August. But a closer look at the market shows that this trend was clearly disrupted in the first half of September, with the weather being the disrupting factor.

The rainy weather has affected the parsley market in several ways. Firstly, it made the current harvest more difficult, which in the short term translated into supply and caused prices to rebound upwards. Now, however, it is no longer pouring and the harvest is going somewhat easier, and prices have fallen again. Currently, the sale price in the large wholesalers is 2.60-3.40 PLN/kg (with parsley asking and packed in bags). This is a quarter less than at the end of August.

The graph above shows, however, that the average price of washed parsley, despite the described decline, remains relatively high compared to the previous ten seasons. It is 9 percent higher year-on-year. In addition, this average does not accurately reflect the price situation in the parsley trade.

The point is that the unfavourable weather has caused major quality problems for parsley. A large proportion of the crop is affected by mould and bacterial diseases. This means that there is a relatively high proportion of lower-quality parsley on the market, which undercuts the average price. It can therefore be expected that in the coming winter and spring the prices of parsley, especially good quality parsley, will rise quite dynamically. As was the case last year, the upward trend may now start even earlier.
