Peppers on the Polish market should get cheaper, but...

2021-02-17 10:38
In the previous week the prices of the sweet pepper imported from Spain slightly decreased in the Polish wholesale. These were not large changes, of the order of 6-7 percent. Consumers could hope for further corrections, because in Spain the biggest drop in prices took place last Saturday.

At that time, the average price of red bell peppers fell from €0.79/kg to €0.69/kg (-13 percent), green bell peppers from €1.21/kg to €0.71/kg (-41 percent) and yellow bell peppers from €0.97/kg to €0.69/kg (-13 percent).

In our wholesale market, the last correction, mentioned above, took place earlier, so the described cuts in Spain should be reflected in our prices. Currently, in the offers of Polish importers Spanish peppers are priced at: PLN 6.00-8.00/kg for red and yellow and PLN 7.00-8.00/kg for green.

However, the downward trend in Spain proved to be short-lived. Yesterday, pepper prices at auctions there rose again, although, at least for now, they haven't made up for the entire earlier drop. Red peppers averaged €0.73/kg, yellow ones €0.79/kg and green ones €0.80/kg. This may mean that in Poland the temporary drop will not be noticed at all.
