Pineapples in Poland- limited supply, but...

2021-02-01 12:11
Pineapples from Costa Rica appeared on the Polish market at a fairly typical time, in November. This, of course, resulted in a certain decrease in the price of this fruit, but in this season this reduction was limited. After this, prices have basically stabilised. Locally there have been fluctuations, but in general this season, in terms of pineapple prices, is clearly different from last year.

That year, January and the first half of February saw a significant increase in pineapple prices due to supply problems. Pineapple prices were on the rise, despite limited demand for the fruit. On average, this increase added 35 per cent to the initial price.

Now, at least for the time being - until the end of January - there is no question of an increase in pineapple prices. This is despite the fact that, once again, the supply of these fruits remains limited. This is also because importers are not importing as much as in better years due to fears of a negative impact of the pandemic on trade. But on the other hand demand for them is also low. Pineapples are not at the forefront of consumer interest during the epidemic. Hence, it is likely that pineapple prices will remain stable or, if there is an increase, it will be small. For now, prices of these fruits in the small wholesale trade are usually at 5.00-6.00 zł/piece for smaller calibers and 6.00-8.00 zł/piece for larger calibers.
