Potato exports from Poland after Q2 2021

The volume of potato exports (category 070190 - Potatoes, fresh or chilled, excluding seed potatoes) in the first half of 2021 amounted to 87.0 thousand tonnes and its value to 49.3 million PLN. This means record high exports in this category, especially in terms of volume. Let us add that this growth was generated mainly by one country.
 
In the first half of 2020, exports in this category amounted to 13.1 thousand tonnes and PLN 17.8 million. This means a year-to-year increase in volume by 73.9 thousand tons, i.e. by 566.1 percent, and an increase in value by 31.5 million PLN, i.e. by as much as 176.6 percent.
 
The average price of potatoes exported from Poland in the first half of 2021 was at the level of 0.57 PLN/kg. In the same period of 2020 it was 1.36 PLN/kg, which means a year-on-year fall of the average price by 58.1 per cent.
 
However, potatoes exported from January to June (category 07019050) had an average price of 2.35 PLN/kg compared to 2.37 PLN/kg the year before (-0.8 per cent) and potatoes exported from July to December (category 07019090) 0.55 PLN/kg compared to 1.25 PLN/kg the year before (-56.0 per cent). Exports in this second category accounted for as much as 99.1 per cent of all Polish potato exports in the period in question.
 
Ukraine came first from the second place and became a clear leader among Polish potatoes' recipients. The export volume increased from 3.1 to 76.5 thousand tons. Exports to Ukraine in the first half of 2021 accounted for 87.9 percent of total Polish exports in this category.
 
Moldova has risen to second place from fourth, with exports rising from 1.2 to 4.8 thousand tonnes.
 
Bosnia and Herzegovina came in third with 1.3 thousand tonnes.
 
Germany has risen to fourth place from twelfth, with purchases of Polish potatoes increasing from just 99 tonnes to 1.1 thousand tonnes.
 
The United Kingdom has dropped to fifth place from third with a volume decrease from 2.0 to 0.9 thousand tonnes.
 
Outside the top five were:
 
Romania - from first place to eighth, with a volume reduction from 3.2 to 0.4 thousand tonnes,
 
Lithuania - from fifth to sixth place and with a volume reduction from 0.8 to 0.6 thousand tonnes.
 
The first five buyers of potatoes in category 07019090, which dominated these exports, consisted of the same countries as above and in the same order. The most expensive potatoes in this category, in the discussed period, were purchased by Germany, at an average of 2.74 PLN/kg (but the large difference in price between this country and the other main buyers shows that it is a different assortment of goods). The cheapest exports were made to our largest customer, Ukraine, at an average of 0.49 PLN/kg.
