Potato imports to Poland after Q2 2021

The volume of imported potatoes (categories: CN 07019090 - Potatoes, fresh or chilled except for seed potatoes, potatoes for starch production, from 1 July to 31 December, and CN 07019050 - Potatoes, fresh or chilled except for seed potatoes, potatoes for starch production, young, from 1 January to 30 June) to Poland amounted to 90.4 thousand tonnes in the first half of 2021, and its value to PLN 100.8 million. This means a significant year-on-year decrease in these imports, both in terms of quantity and value.
 
 
 
The volume of imports in this category in the first half of 2020 reached 173.6 thousand tonnes, and its value PLN 199.1 million. This means a year-to-year decrease in volume by 83.2 thousand tons, i.e. by 47.9%, and a drop in value by PLN 98.3 million, i.e. by 49.4%.
 
 
 
The average price of potatoes imported to Poland in the first half of 2021 amounted to 1.12 PLN/kg (0.89 PLN/kg for 07019090 category and 1.60 PLN/kg for 07019050 category) compared to 1.15 PLN/kg (1.01 PLN/kg and 1.54 PLN/kg respectively) a year earlier, which means a year-on-year decrease by 2.6 percent (-11.9 and +3.9 percent respectively).
 
 
 
Germany, despite a year-on-year decrease in the volume of deliveries from 51.2 to 31.6 thousand tonnes, managed to maintain its leading position among potato suppliers to Poland.
 
Spain has risen from fourth to second, despite a reduction from 16.1 to 14.6 thousand tonnes.
 
France has risen to third place from fifth, although here too the volume has fallen from 15.8 to 12.6 thousand tonnes.
 
Greece has dropped to fourth place from third with a drop in potato imports from 23.0 to 9.9 thousand tonnes.
 
Cyprus rose to fifth place from eleventh with an increase in deliveries from 3.6 to 7.1 thousand tonnes.
 
The Netherlands has dropped out of the top five (from second to seventh position) with a decrease from 24.0 to 3.4 thousand tonnes.
 
 
 
In the top five countries supplying potatoes in the 07019090 category (from July to December, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Cyprus), the cheapest vegetable was imported in the first half of 2021 from France at an average price of 0.66 PLN/kg. The most expensive was Spain, at 2.03 PLN/kg, and from the largest supplier, Germany, at 0.67 PLN/kg.
 
In the case of potatoes in category 07019050 (imports from January to June), the top five were Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Egypt and Italy. The cheapest potatoes were imported from Italy at an average of PLN 1.45 per kilo, the most expensive from Cyprus at PLN 1.78 per kilo and those from the largest supplier, Spain, had an average price of PLN 1.60 per kilo.
