Production of frozen food and juices in Poland 2020

2021-01-28 12:16
We analyse the CSO data for the whole year 2020 and the production of frozen vegetables and fruit and vegetable juices as well as vegetable pickles. In this period, we can see a decrease in the production sector of juices, frozen vegetables and especially frozen fruits in relation to 2019. Only in the category of vegetable pickles the CSO recorded a year-on-year increase in production.

In 2020, 511,000 tonnes of frozen vegetables were produced in Poland and this was 97.9 per cent of the production from the same period of 2019. After three quarters, this indicator was 94.3 per cent. From this we can conclude a good end of the year in this sector, as the dynamics of this production improved.

As for the production of frozen fruits (including nuts), according to CSO data, it amounted to 329 thousand tonnes in 2020, which represented 91.8 per cent of the production level in this category in 2019. After three quarters of the year, this indicator was only 88.2 per cent, which means that the production of frozen fruits, although still lower year-on-year, also improved during the winter period.

As for fruit and vegetable juices, 9,497 thousand hectolitres were produced in 2020 and this was 94.4 per cent of last year's volume. In this category we also note an improvement in the dynamics in the last months of 2020, as the indicator after three quarters was 90.9 per cent. So the losses to last year have been reduced here as well.

The CSO statement still includes the production of vegetable pickles, of which 51,084 tonnes were produced in 2020 and this was 124.4 per cent of the 2019 production level. In this category, the advantage over last year increased, as the rate after three quarters was 120.8 per cent.
