Strawberry imports to Poland in 2020 based on CSO data

The import volume of fresh strawberries (081010 - Strawberries and strawberries, fresh) to Poland in 2020 amounted to 17.0 thousand tonnes, and its value to 150.9 million PLN. This means a year-on-year decrease in the volume of imports in this category, but with an increase in its value.

In 2019, 17.9 thousand tonnes of fresh strawberries were imported to Poland for an amount of PLN 138.7 million. This gives a year-on-year decrease in volume by less than 1.0 thousand tonnes, or 5.4 per cent, and an increase in value by PLN 12.2 million, or 8.8 per cent.

The average price of imported strawberries in 2020 was 8.89 PLN/kg compared to 7.73 PLN/kg in the same period of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 15.0 per cent.

In terms of changes in the geographical structure of fresh strawberry imports between 2019 and 2020, the top five suppliers were mainly quantitative.

Spain remained in first place despite a decrease in the volume of deliveries from 10.1 to 9.0 thousand tonnes.

Greece strengthened in second position by increasing deliveries from 3.4 to 4.1 thousand tonnes.

Germany remained in third place with deliveries fluctuating around 1.9 thousand tonnes.

Serbia moved up to fourth from seventh place with volumes increasing from 0.3 to 0.5 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands dropped from fourth to fifth with a volume decrease from 0.8 to 0.3 thousand tonnes.

Portugal dropped out of the top five (from fifth to sixth place), with deliveries down from 0.5 to just under 0.3 thousand tonnes.

With regard to average prices of strawberries imported to Poland in 2020 from the five largest suppliers, the price of Dutch strawberries was above average at 21.00 PLN per kilo. The second highest was the average price from Germany - 11.19 PLN per kilo. The cheapest strawberries were imported from Greece, at an average of 6.42 per kilo, and the average price from the largest supplier, Spain, was 9.04 per kilo.
