The french bean season is gathering pace in Poland

2021-07-02 11:43
The second half of June brought a clear acceleration in the growth of french bean supply on the Polish market. In the passing week, the quantities of this vegetable reaching the market were already significant enough to speak of a truly large wholesale.

Of course, this upward trend in supply could not fail to translate into wholesale prices for green beans. Over the past two weeks, the average wholesale price has fallen by 55 per cent. On Wednesday, the last day of June, wholesale prices were between 6.00 and 7.00 PLN per kilo. Today, on 1 July, it is slightly more expensive at 7.00-8.00 PLN per kilo. This level means that retail beans are already becoming an attractively priced summer vegetable for consumers.

Of course, there is still some time left until the full season. In August, when ground beans will be on sale, prices will be much lower and the scale of trade in this vegetable will be much greater. But now it still has the appeal of a seasonal novelty and this is leading consumers to agree to higher prices.

Current bean prices depend heavily on the weather. And the downward trend, which will remain downward in the long term, can be disrupted by upward corrections in short intervals for this reason. This was the case at the beginning of July 2020, when the average price at the large wholesalers jumped from PLN 8.00/kg to PLN 12.00/kg in just a few days.
