The start of the imported sweet pepper season in Poland

2021-09-27 10:14
On the Polish wholesale market, the trading season of domestic bell peppers is in full swing and will continue for several more weeks (of course, much depends on the weather). Prices of domestic fresh market peppers remain relatively stable in September.

For red peppers it is usually 3.80-4.40 PLN/kg, and for green peppers 2.60-3.00 PLN/kg (on sale). These prices are little or no different from those of the same period last year. The average price for red peppers is 4.10 PLN/kg, a year ago it was 4.00 PLN/kg (+2.5 percent year-on-year). The average price for green peppers is 2.80 zlotys per kilo, which is the same as a year ago.

Domestic pepper in the current season was so abundant that imports of this vegetable did not appear earlier. It was only in the last few days that supplies of pepper from the Netherlands hit the domestic wholesale market. Price relations on the local market and high euro to zloty exchange rates also helped. However, in the 38th week of the year, imported peppers were already available at small wholesalers and red and yellow peppers were priced at PLN 4.00-5.00 per kilo, which was an average PLN per kilo less than a year ago. And it should be remembered that the sweet pepper export season in Spain has just started and the supply of this vegetable on the European market will now grow.
