Tomato imports to Poland in Q1 2021

The volume of tomato imports to Poland (CN category 070200) in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 65.3 thousand tonnes, and its value to 441.8 million PLN. This means a decrease in imports in this category both in terms of volume and value.

In the first quarter of 2020, tomato imports amounted to 69.4 thousand tonnes, and their value reached PLN 443.4 million. The volume dropped by 4.1 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 5.9 per cent. On the other hand, the value of imported tomatoes dropped by only one million zlotys, i.e. by 0.4 per cent.

The average price of tomatoes imported to Poland in the first quarter of 2021 was PLN 6.76/kg compared to PLN 6.39/kg in the same period of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 5.8 per cent.

In terms of changes in the structure of imports in this category between the first quarter of 2021 and the same period of 2020, there were few changes in the top five suppliers.

Spain remained in first place despite a significant drop in the volume of deliveries, from 29.1 to 20.8 thousand tonnes.

Morocco has strengthened its position in second place by increasing its volume from 12.5 to 13.9 thousand tonnes.

Turkey moved up from fourth to third place with an increase in volume from 8.2 to 12.6 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands has dropped from third to fourth place despite an increase in deliveries from 8.7 to 9.1 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands remained in fifth place despite a drop in volume from 6.6 to 5.7 thousand tonnes.

In terms of average prices for tomatoes imported to Poland in the first quarter of 2021 from the five largest suppliers, the German price was the highest at an average of PLN 10.83/kg and the Turkish price was the lowest at PLN 4.37/kg. Tomatoes from the largest supplier, Spain, had an average price of PLN 6.67/kg over the period.
