Volume of kiwi fruit imports to Poland in 2020 based on GUS data

The volume of kiwi fruit imports to Poland (CN 081050 category - kiwi fruit, fresh) amounted to 29.8 thousand tonnes in 2020 and its value reached 183.7 million zlotys. This represents a year-on-year decrease in terms of the volume aspect and an increase in terms of value.

This is because in 2019, imports in this category amounted to 34.1 thousand tonnes and 161.6 million PLN. This means a decrease in volume by 4.3 thousand tonnes, or 12.6 percent, while the value of these imports increased by as much as PLN 22.0 million, or 13.6 percent.

The average price of kiwifruit imported to Poland in the three quarters of 2020 was 6.16 PLN per kilo compared to 4.74 per kilo a year earlier. This represents a year-on-year increase of 30.0 per cent.

When it comes to changes in the geographical structure of imports in the category in question between 2019 and 2020, there were only quantitative changes in the top five suppliers.

Greece remained in first place with a decrease in volume from 14.0 to 12.8 thousand tonnes.

Italy remained in second place with a volume decrease from 10.5 to 7.7 thousand tonnes.

Germany moved up to third place with a volume increase from 4.1 to 4.3 thousand tonnes.

Chile remained in fourth place with an increase in volume from 3.4 to 3.8 thousand tonnes.

New Zealand remained in fifth place with volumes increasing from 0.8 to 0.9 thousand tonnes.

The most expensive kiwifruit in 2020, as far as the five largest suppliers are concerned, came from New Zealand (average price 10.36 PLN/kg), but it must be remembered that the New Zealand offer is now dominated by the more expensive golden kiwifruit. The lowest average price was for fruit imported from Greece at 5.12 PLN/kg.
