What are the chances of a price rise of beetroots in Poland?

2021-02-01 12:22
The domestic wholesale trade in beetroot has been in a clear slump since the beginning of December last year - both in terms of price and demand. To make matters worse, this plunge followed an autumn period that was itself quite poor in terms of prices for this vegetable. As you can see from the graph below, this season beetroot had been selling poorly since September and December only came to exacerbate this crisis.

Now in January, with the arrival of cooler temperatures and snowfall, beet prices at the big wholesalers have improved marginally but. The relative change is less than 12 per cent and the current selling price level is in the range of 0.40-0.55 PLN /kg for washed and bagged beet.

However, the likelihood of further price increases and a return to the price ceiling of November, for example, is minimal in the coming weeks. Demand realities, and therefore prices, will not improve until the catering industry's blockade is lifted. And even after the blockade is lifted, trade in vegetables, including beets, will not immediately return to "normal" levels.
