What are the prices of grapes in Poland?

2021-02-17 12:03
In February the availability of grapes on the Polish market is still limited, especially light grapes. They are mainly imported from South America and their prices are high in winter. Imports from India are only just beginning to reach European markets, and in Poland the popularity of Indian grapes is less than that of South American grapes.

Although it should be noted that the dynamics of price changes for light and dark grapes are different. There are very few light grapes in Poland in February and March, and it is better with pink grapes because the supply of the most popular Red Globe variety increases then and its prices are noticeably lower than those of green grapes.

This is also the case today. Prices of dark grapes in the offers of Polish importers range from 6.00-14.00 PLN/kg and the lower limit of this range is the price level of Red Globe. On the other hand, light grapes are priced in the higher range of PLN 11.00-15.00 per kilogram. However, it is worth noting that the average price of dark grapes (10.00 zł/kg) is 9 percent lower year-on-year and the average price of light grapes (13.00 zł/kg) is 4 percent lower year-on-year. However, this relationship could reverse in the coming weeks as the grape crop in Chile, the country that is now its main supplier in South America, has been hit hard in recent days.

Interestingly, there are offers of grapes from Moldova on the Polish wholesale market with relatively low prices (around 6 PLN/kg). However, the supply of Moldovan grapes is limited and, moreover, these are cold store goods as the season there has long since ended.
