Export of frozen blueberries from Poland in Q1 2022 based on CSO data
The volume of frozen blueberries exported from Poland (CN category 08119050 - Fruits of the species Vaccinium myrtillus, uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling in water, frozen, not containing added sugar or other sweeteners) amounted to 4.4 thousand tonnes in the first quarter of 2022, and its value to PLN 63.6 million. This means an increase in imports in this category - smaller in volume terms and large in value terms.
In the first quarter of 2021, frozen berry exports amounted to 4.2 thousand tonnes and PLN 50.8 million. This means a year-on-year increase in volume by 0.3 thousand tonnes, or 6.8 per cent, and an increase in value by PLN 12.7 million, or 25.0 per cent.
The average price of frozen blueberries exported from Poland (calculated as the total import value divided by the total volume) amounted to 14.31 PLN/kg in the first quarter of 2022 compared to 12.22 PLN/kg in the same period of 2020. This gives a year-on-year increase in the average price by 17.1 per cent.
In the ranking of Polish consumers of frozen berries, in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021, the first place was taken by Germany, whose volume increased from 1.3 to 1.9 thousand tonnes.
France remained in second place with a decrease in volume from 0.8 to 0.6 thousand tonnes.
The Netherlands moved up to third from seventh place with an increase in volume from 0.2 to 0.5 thousand tonnes.
Sweden went down to fourth place from third with a volume of 0.3 thousand tonnes.
Norway has moved up to fifth place from eighth with a volume of 0.2 thousand tonnes.
Austria dropped from fourth to ninth place with a volume of 0.2 000 tonnes to just 80 tonnes.
Denmark dropped from fifth to sixth place with 0.2 thousand tonnes.

The cheapest frozen berries in 2021 were exported by Poland to its largest customer, Germany, at an average of 11.96 PLN/kg. The most expensive export was to Norway at an average price of 20.07 PLN/kg.
