Import of pears to Poland in Q1 2021

The volume of imports to Poland of pears (CN category 080830 - Fresh pears) amounted to 13.9 thousand tonnes in the first quarter of 2021, while its value reached 45.1 million PLN. This represents a year-on-year decline in both volume and value terms.

In the first quarter of 2021, imports in this category amounted to 14.7 thousand tonnes and PLN 60.7 million. This gives a year-to-year decrease in volume by 0.8 thousand tons, i.e. by 5.6 percent, and an increase in value by PLN 15.6 million, i.e. by as much as 25.7 percent.

The average price of pears imported to Poland in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 3.24 PLN/kg compared to 4.12 PLN/kg in the same period of 2020, which means a year-on-year decrease by 21.3 per cent. At the same time, it should be remembered that category 080830 includes both dessert and puree pears, but the share of the latter in total exports is less than 16 per cent, and the price of these pears was at 90 per cent of that of dessert pears.

The Netherlands remained in first place despite a volume reduction from 10.7 to 9.9 thousand tonnes.

Belgium has strengthened its position in second place by increasing deliveries from 1.6 to 3.4 thousand tonnes. Germany moved up to third place from fourth despite a reduction in deliveries from 0.6 to 0.3 thousand tonnes.

Portugal dropped from third to seventh place, with pear imports down from 13 300 tonnes to just 40 tonnes.
