More and more homegrown vegetables available on the Polish market
The domestic offer of new vegetables is consistently expanding on the fresh market in Poland. Of course, these are vegetables from under high cover at this early stage and their supply is limited, but the situation is very dynamic and if the weather is favourable, the availability of this offer will increase rapidly.
We have already written about the first domestic cauliflowers on fresh-market.pl. During the week, wholesale prices fell by around 26% to 3.50-4.50 PLN per head. This is even cheaper than the most common prices for imported cauliflowers (4.00-4.50 PLN/piece), which means that the domestic offer could quickly dominate the market. If it were to get warmer still, the roses would be riper and thus could fetch better prices.
Polish broccoli has also recently joined cauliflowers. In the wholesale trade (for now it is a small wholesale) their prices are currently at 5.00-6.00 PLN/unit. In the manufacturers' sales offers you can already find prices from 4.00 PLN/unit. Here, too, quality and size play a significant role. In any case, these prices are comparable to those of last year. However, it is worth remembering that after 19 May 2021, domestic broccoli quickly cheapened and already at the beginning of June its price was at an average level of 3.00 PLN/unit.
In addition to cauliflower and broccoli, the Polish offer of fresh vegetables has also been enriched by courgette. The first small wholesale quotations for this vegetable are at 5.00-6.00 PLN/kg. And in this case, this is a level similar to that in the same period last year, when it averaged 5.75-6.00 PLN/kg. A year ago, courgette prices also fell until the end of May but then rebounded when the supply of this vegetable decreased due to worse weather.
