High Raspberry Prices in Warsaw Despite Heat and Pest Pressure

2026-07-27 06:34

Wholesale prices for raspberries at the Bronisze market near Warsaw on 27 July 2026 remain high, ranging from €8.1 to €10.4/kg (35–45 PLN/kg), reflecting strong demand and weather-affected supply.

On 27 July 2026, wholesale prices for raspberries at the Bronisze market near Warsaw were reported at €8.1–10.4/kg (35–45 PLN/kg). These elevated prices indicate limited supply on the market, despite ongoing harvests in Poland.

The 2026 raspberry season has been marked by extreme weather, with severe winter frosts followed by summer heatwaves exceeding 40°C. On a Malling Bella plantation in Płonki, yields reached about 13.5 tonnes per hectare at the midpoint of the summer harvest, with expectations of up to 30 tonnes per hectare by the end of the season from two harvests. Fruit size was reduced in tunnel-grown crops due to high temperatures, especially in central rows, but plants near tunnel sides maintained better fruit quality thanks to improved air circulation.

Demand for fresh raspberries remains firm, with buyers seeking high-quality fruit for both fresh consumption and processing. The current high prices reflect the combination of strong demand and weather-impacted supply, as well as increased costs of production and harvest.

Growers face additional challenges from Drosophila suzukii (spotted wing drosophila), with the risk of pest pressure rising in the second half of summer if conditions become cooler and wetter. The pest threat is particularly significant on raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry plantations, especially those near wild hosts.

Despite the weather and pest risks, the overall condition of raspberry plants in well-managed plantations remains good, supporting expectations for a continued harvest into the autumn.
