Cucumber imports to Poland in 2021

The volume of cucumber imports to Poland (CN category 070700 - Cucumbers and gherkins, fresh or chilled) amounted to 71.7 thousand tonnes in 2021, with a value of 355.7 million PLN. This means an increase both in the volume of imports in this category and in their value.

In 2020, the import of cucumbers amounted to 66.6 thousand tons and 297.0 thousand tons, respectively, which gives an increase in volume by 5.1 thousand tons, i.e. by 7.7%, and an increase in value by 58.7 million PLN, i.e. by 19.8%.

The average price of cucumbers imported to Poland in 2021 was 4.96 PLN/kg compared to 4.46 PLN/kg in 2020. This gives an increase in the average price year-on-year by 11.2 per cent.

The ranking of cucumber suppliers to Poland is invariably dominated by Spain, which between 2020 and 2021 maintained its leading position despite a year-on-year drop in deliveries from 30.6 to 24.5 thousand tonnes.

Russia has risen from third place to second, with deliveries increasing from 5.9 to 8.7 thousand tonnes.

Germany has dropped to third from second place with deliveries of cucumbers down from 8.3 to 7.5 thousand tonnes.

Greece moved up to fourth from fifth place with deliveries increasing from 4.2 to 6.1 thousand tonnes.

The Netherlands has dropped to fifth place from fourth with cucumber imports increasing from 5.2 to 5.6 thousand tonnes.

Among the five largest suppliers, cucumbers imported from the Netherlands had the lowest average price, at 4.48 PLN/kg. German cucumbers, on the other hand, were the most expensive, at an average of 6.88 PLN/kg. Cucumbers imported from the largest supplier, Spain, had an average price of 5.33 PLN/kg.
