Dessert raspberries still relatively expensive in Poland

This year's season is very difficult for raspberry producers. Extreme summer weather phenomena passing through Poland have not left without influence on the cultivation of this fruit. And let's remember that the marketing season started with a delay caused by a cold spring. Then we had storms and heat, which did not do raspberries any favours. And not only in Poland.

As a result, the supply of raspberries has remained low since the start of the season. Of course, it is relatively low compared to more "normal" years, because week by week, the current supply of summer raspberries has increased, while their wholesale prices have decreased, as can be seen in the chart below.

You can see there that the average price of dessert raspberries remained above the level of a year and two years ago at the large wholesaler. For a while it got a bit cheaper - as the price dropped to the level of 10.00 PLN per kilo, but in the last few days it has partially made up for this discount. Currently, prices at the big wholesaler are PLN 14.00-20.00/kg, which is 79 per cent more expensive year-on-year and 17 per cent more expensive for 2019. The season is approaching the transition period between the summer and autumn raspberry phases, and supply will be even lower during this period, so prices are firming up. However, in such a year in August, don't expect some sort of clear price drop from current levels. There is too little fruit for that, and demand for it is too high (from processing).
